"One day it occurred to me that it had been many years since the world had been afforded the spectacle of a man adventurous enough to undertake a journey through Germany on foot. After much thought, I decided that I was a person fitted to furnish to mankind this spectacle. So I determined to do it. This was in March, 1878." Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad

First Views of Marburg: Home away from Home
View from the center of the market place (Marktplatz). Marburg is known for its restored timber-framed homes, most of which are housing for students at the university. They all lean slightly in different directions. One woman we encountered told us she lived in one while in school here and had to put rocks at the bottom of her furniture to keep it close to level.
Shopping with Penelope in the Oberstadt (Uptown) area of Marburg. The steep, narrow streets make for a good workout!
