"One day it occurred to me that it had been many years since the world had been afforded the spectacle of a man adventurous enough to undertake a journey through Germany on foot. After much thought, I decided that I was a person fitted to furnish to mankind this spectacle. So I determined to do it. This was in March, 1878." Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad

Penelope the One-Year-Old

Ever since turning one, Penelope has undergone a transformation. She is no longer that cute and cuddly baby girl that loves to be carried around on your hip. She is now a wild toddler.

She is quite difficult to contain in one place, whether it be a stroller, high chair, car seat, or your lap. She will wriggle and push and stretch and protest until she gets free and then take off full speed ahead.

Toys or books no longer hold her interest for long. She much prefers walking around and exploring and testing her limits.

She is most easily entertained in a place full of people where she can flash a smile or emit a fake laugh and get someone's attention.
\

Once someone acknowledges her, she proceeds to put on a flitatious show. Smiling coyly, turning her head away, then laughing and coming back for more. Where did she pick these things up anyway?

Thank goodness the cold weather has gone away for good, and the parks and playgrounds are plentiful in Heidelberg.

Here she can run and explore to her heart's content and grab the attention of many a passerby.

But when it is time to pack up and go home, watch out!
