"One day it occurred to me that it had been many years since the world had been afforded the spectacle of a man adventurous enough to undertake a journey through Germany on foot. After much thought, I decided that I was a person fitted to furnish to mankind this spectacle. So I determined to do it. This was in March, 1878." Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad

Eleven Months

Happy 11 months Penelope!

You've been busy learning how to walk this month. Three weeks ago you took your first step. When your dad and I saw it, we couldn't believe our eyes. Then it seemed like overnight you went from a couple steps to walking wherever you want all by yourself. You still fall down quite a bit, but you're so tough--you just shrug it off and keep on going. You remind us a little of Frankenstein when you walk because you stick your arms straight out and toddle back and forth as you go. You're getting faster and faster and more and more confident every day. Pretty soon you're going to be running.

We've been going to the park whenever it is warm enough. You love to wear your new boots and walk around in the sand. Unfortunately you also like to eat the sand, and any other bit of leaf or stick you can find.

You love to meet new people and try new things. Whenever we encounter a new person you try to get their attention and flash them a smile. You are particularly fond of men, and seem to flirt with them at every opportunity. We think we might have trouble on our hands down the road!

You just learned how to say "dog," and your face lights up every time we run into a dog during our daily walks through town. You are also fascinated with putting lids on and off of containers and pots and seeing if you can fit objects inside.

You have started becoming more snuggly and affectionate. You love to walk up to us and give us a hug or nestle your head into our chests. You also love to hug your stuffed animals and dolls, and you would prefer to drag your little blanket around with you all day if we would let you.

You're growing up so fast that we can hardly keep up!

We love you little P!
